Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid May Step Down, Awami Ittehad Party to Seek Public Opinion

Hi, Welcome you all on my website dilbarirshad.com. I am Journalist Dil Bar Irshad, bringing you insight, ground reporting, and the latest political developments from Jammu and Kashmir and across the country.

In today’s report, jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid is reportedly considering resigning from the Lok Sabha, citing his inability to effectively serve the people who elected him with a massive mandate in the 2024 General Elections. Rashid, who defeated Omar Abdullah by more than two lakh votes from the Baramulla constituency, has been lodged in Tihar Jail for several years while facing terror-related charges, which he has consistently denied. His party, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), has announced a two-day consultative exercise across all 18 Assembly segments of the constituency to seek public and party opinion before taking a final decision. According to the party, any decision regarding Rashid’s future as MP will be guided by the wishes and aspirations of the people who voted for him.
