Radio Sangam Launched in Rajouri: First Community Radio Station Along LoC Strengthens Border Outreach

Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir: In a significant step towards strengthening communication in border areas, Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has got its first-ever community radio station along the Line of Control (LoC). Named Radio Sangam, the station has been set up at Keri village, barely a kilometre from the LoC, officials confirmed.

The initiative is a joint effort of the Indian Army, the civil administration and local residents, aimed at improving information access in remote border regions. Broadcasting on 88.8 FM, Radio Sangam is designed to serve as a reliable source of news and awareness while countering misinformation and propaganda emanating from across the border.

Given its strategic location, officials said the station’s signals can also be heard in certain areas across the LoC, expanding its reach beyond Indian territory.

Radio Sangam was inaugurated by Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma in the presence of civil society members, district officials and local villagers. Addressing the gathering, Sharma described the station as a vital link between the administration and border residents.

He noted that the community radio would amplify local voices, encourage public participation and raise awareness on key issues such as education, health, agriculture and government welfare schemes. “This platform will help people stay informed while also strengthening trust between the administration and communities living in sensitive border areas,” he said.

Officials said the station is the first of its kind along the LoC and represents a milestone in grassroots communication. Beyond news and public information, Radio Sangam is also expected to promote local culture and provide space for discussions on everyday challenges faced by border residents.

With Radio Sangam now on air, authorities hope the initiative will empower communities living close to the LoC, ensure access to credible information and reinforce social cohesion in an area of strategic importance.
